After reading the poems, I decided to analyze the poem called, ‘Helen Betty Osborne’ (Marilyn Dumont).
The first stanza, the author talks to a girl name, ‘Betty.’ In here this girl name might represent everyone who is a native girl in America or it might represent herself. The author is saying that every female native Americans and including herself are facing loneliness, anxiety, and horror from living a town where, few Indians are residing. This seems to represent their sorrow and grief.
The second stanza, basically expresses their innocence and sorrow from describing the incidents that might happened in past days. The word such as, skinning, scraping, pounding, and packing are well expressed to describe their severe lives.
The last stanza, the author is saying if she writes the poem then it will be about herself and other female native Americans who had to suffer without any reasons. At the end, she stops writing; however, it seems that she has a lot of things to tell to readers about the innocence of femal native Americans.
